Welcome!

If you're from Glendale Community College in Glendale, AZ - Welcome!

I am the "IT" girl. That big "IT" stands for Information Technology. If you've got questions about computers on campus (or off), feel free to ask and make comments here. This blogspot will be used to post useful information and direct you to more indepth resources for those that have active eGCC accounts.

Just think of me like Sacajawea. Sacajawho? Exactly. Remember, she's the guide that showed Lewis and Clark around on their great expedition. She already knew the territory that these boys were discovering for the first time. It's kind of like you and me...

So fire away!

Conserving your eGCC space...

eGCC accounts have 100MB of personal server space (H: Drive) allocated to their eGCC account. About 50MB is available for storage.

It is always good practice to conserve your allocated eGCC server resources. To help you monitor your resources, a message will appear when you are nearing or exceeding your quota on either your H: drive or S: drive. If this happens, you will want to reclaim some of that precious file storage space by reallocating (moving) some of your files to a removable storage media (flashdrive, cd, floppy, email account, etc...)

If you do exceed your quota and have trouble reclaiming your storage space for one reason or other, be sure to let us know. For assistance please contact the Helpdesk:

Email: student-helpdesk@student.gc.maricopa.edu
Telephone: 623.845.3555 x2

Additional information about your eGCC account, please visit the Helpdesk website and click on the eGCC Accounts menu item.

Near or Over Quota?

Did you get the nasty-gram?? "Warning: if you are near or over quota, you will still be able to login, but may not be able to save your data."

If so, don't panic. The Helpdesk would be pleased to assist you in reallocating your files.

Reallocated all your files and still need room? Please contact the Helpdesk and we can add 10MB of personal server space to your existing quota. Deep breath.... ahhhhh.

What is eGCC?

eGCC refers to the networked computing environment at Glendale. The name eGCC conceptualizes all our electronic tools for teaching, learning, and administrating into an online virtual world. In essence, electronic GCC. (It may not be exciting, but hey, at least it broke stride with using "i" for internet like everyone else coping Apple's imac and ipod products...)

Every student (enrolled in credit classes), faculty member, and employee at GCC has an eGCC network account. Depending on your role on campus, this account grants access to the data, software, and other resources you need to fulfill your role. Faculty and employees have access to shared department files, while students and faculty access shared course folders and files.

Software, internet browsers, email, a standard suite of tools, and a wide range of other resources are also accessible to everyone with an eGCC account. It's just one of the great perks here at Glendale. Online or in person, come join us!

Got Wireless?

Yes, we do! Wireless access is available on campus so that you can use the internet on your favorite wireless devices from more places than just a classroom. Want to browse the Internet on your own wireless-equipped PDA, tablet PC or laptop while...

  • in the Student Union?
  • under a tree by the coffee cart?
  • in the Counseling and Career Services Building?
  • inside or outside the High Tech Centers?
  • in the grass by Physical Sciences?
  • and lots of other places?
  • for FREE?!

Just check out http://www.gccaz.edu/wireless and http://web.gccaz.edu/studenthelpdesk/wireless.html to find out how to set up your device and login. So get out there and get connected!

Change Happens

Big changes are on the horizon. Very soon, the Information Technology departments at GCC will be lead by a new Vice President. This is newsworthy because we've never had a VP of IT (or VPIT) before! We are very excited and anxiously awaiting his or her appointment to office.

In the meantime, check out http://www.gccaz.edu/campusforums for a preview of the VP candidates. But hurry and click that link! The bios and the video of their presentations will only be posted for a limited time...

Stay tuned for the latest info about our new leadership!
